Game Coverage: (Live Stats) (Live Video) What to Look For: The Brewers enter this weekend's tournament as the only team with a winning record, standing at 2-0-1 on the year. Vassar has been exceptional at Gordon Field this season, scoring all five of its goals on the season at home.
A Look at the Blazers: Elms comes into the weekend at 0-1-1 after tying Colby-Sawyer 2-2 in the their season opener and falling to Fitchburg State 1-0 on September 3. Elms lost both of its leading scorers to graduation last season, but return junior Connor O'Grady who netted four goals in 2013. Connor and Senior
Joseph Coleman have both recorded goals for the Blazers in two games this season.
Against Elms All-Time: Elms and Vassar will meet for the first time ever this weekend when the squads open tournament play on Saturday at 2 pm.
A Look at the Rams: Farmingdale State picked up an upset 1-0 victory in its season-opener against No. 12 Stevens, before dropping its second game of the year to Baruch 1-3 on September 3. Junior Diego Sarmiento returns as the team's leading scorer, after posting seven goals in 2013. Sarmiento has yet to find the back of the net in 2014 however, as freshman Samuele Riva, junior J.T. Famularo and senior Tyler Rollamn have netted the team's three goals this season.
Against Farmingdale All-Time: Farmingdale State and Vassar have met once before, when Vassar picked up a 3-0 victory on October 17, 2009 at home.
Last Time Out: The Brewers picked up their second victory of the year against Western Connecticut 3-0 on September 3.
Andreas Freund (San Francisco, CA/Marin Acad.), Jordan Palmer (Woodland Hills, CA/Agoura) and Stephen Jennings (Poughkeepsie, NY/Arlington) all notched their first goals of the season for VC in the win.
Sharing the Love: Vassar has had five different players record a goal leading up to the tournament, as no one Brewer has emerged as the team's go-to scoring option. Junior
Gavin Jennings (Poughkeepsie, NY/Arlington) and freshman
Reid Smith (Greensboro, NC/Greensboro) have both added two assists each in three games.
Tough to Score: The Brewer defense has been impressive in the early goings of the season, allowing zero goals and only eight shots total on goal in three games. Sophomore goalkeeper
Adam Warner (Tenafly, NJ/Tenafly) has been perfect minding the net, making seven saves and earning three straight shutouts.
Young Guns: This year's Vassar squad features only three seniors, making way for a large group of underclassmen to have an immediate impact. Freshmen defenders
Tanner Sands (Draper, UT/Juan Diego) and
Hayden Van Brewer (Wilbraham, MA/Minnechaug Regional) have started in all three games so far for the Brewers, while sophomores
Tyler Hamashima (Federal Way, WA/Thomas Jefferson) and
Andreas Freund have also made starts in the early goings of the season.
El-Capitans: The team's trio of seniors including
Justin Mitchell (Layton, UT/Northridge), Zach Zasipak (Chandler, AZ/Hamilton) and
Tom Wiechert (Dana Point, CA/San Clemente) will serve as the team captains this year.
On to the Next One: Vassar will remain at home next week to play two home slates against Manhattanville College (9/10) and SUNY-Oneonta (9/13).
