What to Look For: Vassar will start Liberty League competition on the road for the first time since 2011 against Union, and will look to start 1-0 in conference play for the second straight season. Juniors
Daniel Cooper (Piedmont, CA/Piedmont) and
Evan Udine (Delray Beach, FL/Boca Raton Community) along with sophomore
Nick Litsky (St. Petersburg, FL/Shorecrest Prep. School) will pace the Brewers in both singles and doubles matches. Last Time Out: Nick Litsky made an impressive run at the ITA Northeast Regionals this past weekend. He advanced through the first four rounds of competition, before dropping a hard fought match to eventual-champion Matthew Heinrich of Steven Tech 1-6, 6-2, 6-1 in the semifinals. Litsky went on to finish 4-1 in singles for the tournament.
A Look at Union: The Dutchmen are coming into the 2014-15 season looking to improve after finishing 2-8 overall in dual matches last year. Union finished 2-3 in Liberty League play during the 2013-14 season, and return virtually all players from last year's roster while adding four new freshmen. Union also welcomes Don Dudley as the program's interim head coach for the upcoming season. The Dutchmen dropped their first dual match of the year to Clark University on September 24 2-7.
Last Year's Matchup:The Brewers won an impressive 5-0 victory over Union College last year in the Liberty League Playoffs. VC swpet the doubles matches, then earned wins in No. 2 and 3 singles to seal the win and advance to the semifinals.
Team of the Week: Litsky was named to the Liberty League Singles Player of the Week after his performance at the ITA Northeast Regional last weekend. This is the fifth time Litsky has received the weekly honor, after being named the conference's rookie of the week on four occasions last season.
On to the Next One: The Brewers will return to Joss Courts on October 1 for another Liberty League dual match when the team hosts the Raptors of Bard College.
