Box Score POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (September 25, 2014) – The Vassar College women's volleyball team won the first two sets Thursday evening in a non-conference tussle with Hunter College, and held off the Hawks to earn a four-set win in action from Kenyon Hall.
The Brewers (8-8) earned the victory with scores of 25-17, 25-23, 20-25 and 27-25. The win did not come easy for Vassar College, though it looked like it might early on. With the first set tied at 11, Vassar went on a 8-2 run to take control of the opening game, earning the lead on set point thanks to a kill from 
Clara Cardillo (San Francisco, CA/Bay School of San Francisco).
The second set was again tight throughout, but Vassar was able to score three of the final four points of the game to earn a commanding two-set match lead. In the second game, Vassar hit .206 as senior 
Marie Pitre (San Dimas, CA/St. Lucy's Priory) connected on four terminations. Hunter responded in the third set with a 25-20 win, connecting on 11 kills and holding Vassar to just nine kills in the game.
In the fourth set, Vassar jumped out to a huge 9-1 lead as 
Taylor Mosley (Rowlett, TX/Parish Episcopal Academy) pounded down four kills over the spurt. The Hawks wouldn't go away, and with the score 22-14, scored nine straight points to take a 23-22 lead. Pitre connected on the next plays with kills, but HC evened the score at 24 with an Angelica Aquino kill.
Vassar got another kill from Pitre to make the score 25-24, but the Hawksonce again knotted the set at 25 on another kill. Pitre gave the Brewers with another kill, as Hunter couldn't communicate on an over ball, and on the next point Hunter posted an attacking error to give Vassar the match victory.
The Brewers were led by the double-double from Mosley, as the senior posted a game-high 16 kills to go with 10 digs. Pitre was great all night with 15 kills and a hitting percentage of .429 (15-3-28), and libero 
Chloe Hallum (Baltimore, MD/Olympia) chalked up a game-best 23 digs, three service aces and two kills.
Sophomore 
Sierra Tobin (Santa Cruz, CA/Santa Cruz) finished with a season-high 10 digs, and 
Gabby Miller (Scottsdale, AZ/Horizon) added seven kills and 19 assists. Freshman 
Sophia Tiajoloff (Kinnelon, NJ/Kinnelon) had a match-leading 25 helpers along with five digs. VC hit 50-26-142 (.169) on the evening, and led the dig battle 64-45.
Samantha Barrett had 10 kills to lead the Hawks, and Taylor Kordich finished with 14 assists, eight digs and five kills.
Vassar College is back in action in eight days, traveling to Potsdam, NY for Liberty League action to take on Skidmore College and host Clarkson University.
