Voegtlin, Brewers Shut Out NYU 1-0

Box Score RIVERDALE, NY (September 13, 2014) – Freshman Katie Voegtlin (Fairfax Station, VA/Lake Braddock) scored the game's only goal, as Vassar held on to blank New York University 1-0 Saturday evening. The game-winner was Voegtlin's first career goal as a Brewer, as her team moves to 3-2 on the year with the victory. NYU drops to 2-3 on the year with the loss.

The Brewers didn't generate much offense in the first half, only totaling three shots to NYU's seven. Vassar made its third attempt of the half count however, as Voegtlin converted an opportunity in the 39th minute. After the NYU goalie came off her mark to play the ball and missed, Voegtlin scored on an open net to give her team a 1-0 lead.

Vassar only managed to tally six shots overall in the contest, but kept NYU goalie Cassie Steinberg on her toes forcing the sophomore to make three saves. Junior goalie Emma Nichols (Lexington, MA/Lexington) was solid again minding the net for VC, turning away eight Violet shots on goal to earn the shut out.

The Brewers will return to action on Wednesday, September 17 at Gordon Field when the team hosts Western Connecticut State.
