ROCHESTER, NY (May 2, 2014) – The Vassar College men's tennis team earned a 5-0 win over the #6 seeded Union College Dutchmen in the quarterfinals of the Liberty League Championships Friday evening at the University of Rochester's Goergen Indoor Courts hosted by Rochester Institute of Technology.

The Brewers jumped out to a big 3-0 lead with the Florida Boys of freshman Nick Litsky (St. Petersburg, FL/Shorecrest Preparatory School) and sophomore Evan Udine (Delray Beach, FL/Boca Raton Community) earning the No. 3 8-0 doubles win over David Brown and Brendan Conry.

The next doubles team to finish was the No. 1 duo of sophomore Daniel Cooper (Piedmont, CA/Piedmont) and freshman Alexander Luckmann (Berkeley, CA/Head-Royce School). They defeated T.J. Moor and Grant Zaccareo 8-5. Sophomores Christian Phelps (Eau Claire, WI/Eau Claire) and Sha Huang (Austin, TX/Saint Stephens Episcopal) topped Spencer Fontein and Anthony Laurencio 8-6, rounding out the doubles play and giving the Brewers the 3-0 advantage.

Phelps then went on to ear a 6-0, 5-0 (unfinished) No. 3 singles win over Laurencio for the fourth match point. Litsky closed the deal at No. 2 with a 6-2, 6-1 clincher over Zaccareo.

"It was good to win today against Union," said head coach Alex Wong. "It was tough circumstances given the delayed start time but we were able to start well with doubles."

The #3 seeded Brewers will take on the #2 seeded Engineers of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute tomorrow at 2:00 pm. The matches will still be held indoors at U. of Rochester's facility due to predicted weather. "We are looking forward to a rematch with a tough RPI team tomorrow. We know that they are a tough team and it's going to take a good team effort to beat them tomorrow."
