Match ProgramPOUGHKEEPSIE, NY (April 12, 2014) – The Vassar College men's tennis team fell to #3 Williams College 9-0 on Saturday afternoon in Northeast Regional action on Josselyn Tennis Courts.
Despite the Ephs being #3 in the country and #2 in the region, the Vassar doubles matches were closer than expected.
The No. 2 doubles team of
Evan Udine (Delray Beach, FL/Boca Raton Community) and
Alexander Luckmann (Berkeley, CA/Head-Royce School) had to battle in a tiebreaker against Howard Weiss and Brian Astrachan. The Brewer duo fell in the end, 9-8 (10-5).
The team of
Nick Litsky (St. Petersburg, FL/Shorecrest Preparatory School) and
Christian Lyon (Berwyn, PA/Conestoga) fell at No. 1 8-6 and the No. 3 pair of
Christian Phelps (Eau Claire, WI/Eau Claire Memorial) dropped an 8-4 decision.
In singles play, Astrachan clinched the match point for the Ephs at No. 5 over freshman
Juan Felipe Laso (Quito, Ecuador/Colegio American De Quito) 6-2, 6-0. There were only three sets in all of singles where a Brewer was shutout 6-0.
The Brewers will next look to either reschedule their match against #23 New York University sometime next week, or will advance with the schedule and host Liberty League opponent, Hobart College on Saturday, April 26 at 9:00 am.
