ROCHESTER, NY (March 30, 2014) – The Vassar College men's tennis team swept through its Liberty League opponent, Rochester Institute of Technology on Sunday in the Gordon Field House with a shutout score of 9-0.
Vassar got the early 3-0 lead from doubles where both No. 1 and No. 3 won with scores of 8-4 and No. 2 had the easier 8-1 victory.
Sophomore
Daniel Cooper (Piedmont, CA/Piedmont) finished his No. 1 singles match with a perfect 6-0 first set but then had to take the second to a 7-6 tiebreaker win over Chandler Daub. Freshman
Jim Lee (Middletown, RI/Middletown) won the only other singles match for the Brewers that showcased a close set. He defeated Andrew Reiley at the No. 6 position 6-4, 6-2.
Freshman
Nick Litsky (St. Petersburg, FL/Shorecrest Preparatory) and sophomore
Evan Udine (Delray Beach, FL/Boca Raton Community) both had first set shutouts at No. 2 and No. 4, respectively. Litsky went on to defeat Sebastian VeraAntelo 6-0, 6-1 while Udine topped Kevin Layer 6-0, 6-3.
The Brewers will next host the Engineers of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on Saturday, April 5 at 10:00 am on the Josselyn Tennis Courts in Liberty League action. The match is their second to last League match of the season before the Liberty League Championships in May.
