A Look at the Brewers
The Brewers (6-7, 1-1 Liberty League) finished their spring break trip to California with a 1-3 record, falling to nationally-ranked #20 California Lutheran University and #21 Whittier College by scores of 2-7 each. They also dropped a 3-6 loss to University of Rochester. Freshman
Nick Litsky (St. Petersburg, FL/Shorecrest Preparatory) picked up his first collegiate match-clinching win against Chapman University. The Brewers won the match 5-4.
The Vassar No. 2 singles spot has the best record with a season record of 8-4. Litsky has contributed 6-4 of that record while
Christian Lyon (Berwyn, PA/Conestoga) and
Christian Phelps (Eau Claire, WI/Eau Claire Memorial) add the other two wins. Phelps also has contributed the most to the No. 3 spot with a record of 6-5.
A look at the Saints
St. Lawrence started off the season strong picking up three wins in a row against Saint Michael's, Ithaca, and Colby Sawyer College. The Saints have just come off two difficult losses of 1-8, falling to both opponents, Rensselaer and nationally-ranked
and regionally-ranked 8 Skidmore College, respectively.
In singles, the Saints have performed best in the No. 3 spot with a record of 7-4 on the season. John Megas has the led the way with a record of 4-1. The No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 singles also have winning records. The Saints' doubles teams have winning histories this season as well.
Against The Saints All-Time
The Brewers are 8-1 against St. Lawrence all-time, their only loss came in 2004 at the UCAA Championships.
A Look at the Tigers
The Tigers only defeated Nazareth College in dual match play back in their 2013-14 season opener in September. More recently, RIT dropped a 1-8 loss to Roberts Wesleyan College on March 19. Chandler Daub won the lone point for the Tigers at No. 1 singles with a 6-4, 6-2 final score. RIT will play a total of three matches before facing the Brewers on Sunday. Sunday's match is their Liberty League opener.
In total, the Tiger singles players have combined for a record of 5-25 in dual matches and 8-36 in both dual and tournament play. Doubles have never won a match in tourney action, going 0-7 while in one-on-one team play, have managed a record of 5-13. No player has a winning record in singles with only one player in Andrew Reiley who has a .500 season between No. 4 and No. 6. Amos Baptiste and Daub are the only doubles duo to have a winning record at a position in the lineup. They are 2-1 at No. 2 but are 0-2 at No. 1.
Against RIT All-Time
The Brewers and Tigers have only met once before in 2012 with Vassar coming out on top, 9-0.
Top Spots
The Brewers No. 2 doubles and No. 2, No. 3 and No. 5 singles are the only spots with .500 or better records this season.
Double Pairings
The Brewers have switched doubles teams for a total of 17 different combinations with all but one competing in dual match play. The pairing of Litsky and Phelps at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Northeast Regionals make them the only duo to not play one-on-one team play. They finished the regionals with a record of 1-1.
A Win Streak Is A Win Streak
Taking all of the singles players and doubles combinations this year, the total of winning streaks that the Brewers have is 13. Only two combinations of doubles still play together while freshman
Alexander Luckmann (Berkeley, CA/Head-Royce School) has a current run of 3-0 following a 2-0 stay at No. 6 singles.
Up Next
The Brewers will next host the Engineers of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on Saturday, April 5 at 3:00 pm in their second to last Liberty League match of the year before the championships in May.
