SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY (November 5, 2014) – A historic season for the Vassar College field hockey team came to an end Wednesday, as the No. 3 seed Brewers fell at second-seed Skidmore College 4-1 in the Liberty League Tournament semifinals in action from Wagner Park.

Vassar (11-7) finishes the season with the second-most wins in program history with 11, and posted back-to-back, double-digit win campaigns for the first time ever at Vassar College. Despite the loss Wednesday, Vassar can boast the highest seed in a Liberty League Tournament ever with a three seed, and also earned national votes for the first time ever.

Wednesday's game saw No. 12 Skidmore earn possession early and often, but Vassar hung tough as junior Amreen Bhasin (Cresskill, NJ/Riverdale) and her defense denied the Thoroughbreds. In the 12th minute, Skidmore got on the board thanks to a Melanie Webb shot from in the box, assisted by Sofia San Marco.

Vassar had its best chances right after the goal, as sophomore Flora Crichton-Stuart (New York, NY/St. Mary's) forced a save off a shot right in front of the cage. In the 17th minute, sophomore Emma Bracken (Alexandria, VA/T.C. Williams) ripped a shot off a penalty corner, but Amy Beck mad a save to keep the Thoroughbreds up a goal.

Vassar nearly tied the game once again at 25:37 after a penalty corner shot from senior Enya Cunningham (Stroudsburg, PA/Stroudsburg) hit the right post, deflected over and hit the left post before being swatted away by SC. Minutes later, the Thoroughbreds scored an unassisted goal from Sam Revera at 28:27 to double the host's lead.

Right before the half, Skidmore tallied again on a Dani DeGregory goal from a shot from the far left wing for her 33rd goal of the year. The 33rd tally for DeGregory set a new Skidmore single-season record for goals. Vassar was outshot in the first half, 17-5, but Bhasin made four saves in the period for VC.

After the break, Bhasin made four saves right out of the gate to keep the score at 3-0, and the Brewers busted through to get on the board. Junior Bianca Zarrella (Leominster, MA/Leominster) gathered a ball and sent a cross to freshman Storm Sideleau (Hopkinton, NH/Kimball Union Academy), who made coolly slotted home the shot for her third score of the season. Sideleau's tally was the first-ever goal scored for the Brewers in the postseason.

The hosts would answer right back 29 seconds later on another Revera to finish the game's scoring. The Brewers had six shots on the contest, led by the pair from Sideleau, while Bhasin made nine saves in the cage for Vassar.  The Brewers also had three of the game's 12 penalty corners on the day.

The Brewers will return 12 of their 14 letter winners in 2015, including their top two scorers. The team does graduate two huge contributors in Cunningham and Hilary McDonnell (Blue Bell, PA/Springside School), both vital cogs in the VC defense in 2014. Skidmore advances to take on the winner of William Smith College and top-seeded University of Rochester this weekend in the Liberty League Championship.
