NEW PALTZ, NY (November 22, 2014) – Junior Julia Cunningham (Yardley, PA/Peddie School) set two pool records at SUNY-New Paltz Saturday afternoon, winning both the 400 yard individual medley and 200 yard butterfly at the meet. Cunningham's time of 2:09.40 in the 200 fly set the new record at Elting Pool, while her mark of 4:43.02 was also the fastest-ever in pool history.
The Hawks took the overall meet victory 166-96, paced by eight overall event victories in the 14-event dual. Vassar still had a number of quality individual performances, as the Brewers now stand at 2-3 on the season.
Senior Olivia Harries (Temple Terrace, FL/Lee Academy) had the top time in the 1000 yard freestyle, finishing in 11:05.44to take first overall. She also posted a season-best 5:28.04 in the 500 free to take first overall, and posted the top time of any Brewer this season in the 200 free finishing in 2:04.44 to win her third event on the day.
Cunningham notched her third victory of the day in the 200 yard breaststroke, finishing in 2:30.96 outpacing the field by nearly six seconds.
Milee Nelson (Champaign, IL/University Laboratory) turned in a trio of quality performances, finishing in 2:06.37 in the 200 free, 5:37.17 in the 500 free and 5:02.73 in the 400 IM to finish as the second Brewer in all three events.
Vassar will wrap up its 2014 schedule December 6-7 in Rochester, NY as the Brewers get set to compete in the Liberty League Championships.
