Box Score MADISON, NJ (November 22, 2014) – Drew University's Kevin Herring II and Ozan Yucetepe combined for 39 points, as the Rangers bested Vassar 80-60 Saturday evening. The hosts never trailed in the game, and forced the Brewers into early foul trouble to dictate the tempo of the game. Drew earns their third victory of the season to move to 3-1, while Vassar drops to 2-2 on the year with the loss.
The Brewers played from behind from the get go, as the Rangers quickly went up 8-0 to start the game at Baldwin Gym. VC couldn't capitalize on a Drew technical foul at the 18:27 mark, missing both free throws to remain scoreless. With 17:21 to play, senior Luka Ladan (Belmont, MA/Belmont) got Vassar on the board with a layup, but the Rangers responded with another eight point run to take a 16-2 lead at the 15:06 mark.
The Brewers found themselves in big foul trouble early, committing several offensive infractions to allow Drew to shoot for the one-and-one bonus with over 13 minutes to play in the half. The Rangers were hot from all over the court in the opening period, shooting 50.0 pct. from the floor and making four of seven from beyond the arc. Drew carried a comfortable 42-30 lead into the locker room at half.
Ladan provided the Brewers with a minor spark to start the second half, making back-to-back layups in the opening minutes to cut the Drew advantage to 34-42. But that was as close as the visitors would get, as the Rangers quickly converted on the other end to rebuild their double digit advantage. Vassar was able to chip away at the lead here and there, but Drew always had a response as the hosts cruised to the 20-point victory.
Drew out-rebounded the Brewers 40-30 in the game. Ladan tied his career-high in both points and rebounds in the defeat, finishing with 26 and 13 (respectively).
Vassar will return to action on November 25 to face Western Connecticut on the road in Danbury, CT.
