A Look At the HeronsWilliam Smith College started off their season with a strong 7-0 win against Oswego and has been a commanding force ever since. Coming off a 3-2 win against Liberty League opponent Union College, the Herons will be looking to improve their 8-3 overall record and their 2-1 conference record on Friday.
Currently leading the Herons in almost every offensive statistic, the Brewers will have to watch out for standout freshman Hannah Wood, who already has 14 goals with a total of 32 points this season. Alessandra Patrizio leads the team in assists with six. Goalkeeper Catherine Hare holds a .779 save percentage and is currently second in the Liberty League for shutouts with four, behind Vassar's
Amreen Bhasin (Cresskill, NJ/Riverdale) with five.
Against William Smith All-TimeThe Vassar College field hockey team has a record of 0-14 against William Smith College all-time dating back to the year 2000. In last year's matchup on September 28, William Smith barely edged out Vassar 2-1 in overtime.
A Look At the YellowjacketsThe Yellowjackets have been having an impressive season thus far, managing to record 11 wins to just one loss. Rochester opened this year's campaign with a phenomenal 11-game win streak, however, this streak came to an end October 4 at Cortland, where the Red Dragons were able to take down the Yellowjackets by a score of 2-1.
Rochester is currently atop the Liberty League with a record of 3-0, just above the second-place Brewers who are 1-0 in-conference. The Brewers and the Yellowjackets stand alone as the undefeated powers in the Liberty League, and a win by either team could claim the top spot in the conference. The Yellowjackets can be found towards the top of most of the team statistical categories, and are now second in goals scored, assists, as well as goals allowed in the Liberty League. Vassar will need to watch out for Rochester star Michelle Relin, who is currently fourth in conference in points, points per game, goals, and goals per game. She is also first in the Liberty League in game-winning goals, posting six in just 12 games.
Against Rochester All-TimeAll-time against Rochester, the Brewers have accumulated a record of 2-14, going all the way back to the 1993 season. Vassar's last victory over the Yellowjackets was way back in 2002 where the Brewers won by a 5-1 margin. Rochester has been the victor in the last 11 matchups between these two teams, however, last year's talented Brewers squad barely fell to the Yellowjackets by a score of 2-1 in overtime on September 27, 2013.
