ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, NY (October 29, 2014) – Multiple swimmers posted meet victories, as Vassar topped Bard College 104-71 in its first action of the season Wednesday evening.
"It was great to see how well we competed today, especially since it was our first meet of the season," said head coach Lisl-Prater Lee. "There have already been some exciting results, and our fan and parent support tonight helped foster that environment for us. To see how well we were supported for an away meet was awesome."
In the men's 1000 yard freestyle, sophomore Walker Gabriel (Houston, TX/Cypress Ranch) took home first, finishing in 12:15.85 for a nearly 10-second victory. Sophomore
Chris Cerutti (Mount Kisco, NY/Fox Lane) stepped up in the 200 yard freestyle, edging the field by 12 seconds with a time of 2:00.12 to finish first overall. Junior Greg Christina (Suffield, CT/Suffield) was the top Brewer in the 50 yard freestyle, finishing in 23.23 to top the field.
Sophomore
Anthony Walker (Madison, WI/James Madison Memorial) turned in a solid time in the men's 100 yard butterfly, finishing in first with a mark of 54.85.
In relays, the team of Cerutti,
Patrick Lai (Chatham, NJ/Newark Academy),
Jonah Strand (Woodstock, NY/Onteora Central) and
Luc Amodio (Poughkeepsie, NY/Arlington) won the 200 yard medley, finishing with a time of 1:46.47. In the 200 yard freestyle relay, Waker, Amodio, Christina and sophomore
Ian Quinn (Montclair, NJ/Seton Hall Preparatory School) posted the top time of 1:32.15.
The Vassar swimming and diving teams will be right back in action this coming Saturday, November 1 when the squads travel for a dual meet with New York University. The meet is slated for a 1:00 pm start.
