Game Coverage: (Live Stats) (Live Video)Last Time Out: Vassar knocked off William Paterson 1-0 on Wednesday afternoon on the heels of a goal from sophomore
Jordyn Matthews (Newton, MA/Newton North). The win moves the Brewers to 6-0-1 at home this season, and wraps up non-conference play for the Brewers in 2014.
A Look at the Engineers: RPI is 10-5-1 overall this season, and has won three out of its last four games over the past weeks. The Engineers are currently ranked seventh in the NCAA Division III East Region, and are coming off a 5-2 road victory over Hartwick on October 21.
RPI is led by senior Taylor Korytko on offense, who has tallied seven goals and three assists so far this season. Korytko is fourth overall in the Liberty League in points (17), while sophomore teammate Cori Winslow is second on the team in points (12) with five goals and two assists. Freshman goalie Tori Riopelle has started in all 16 games for the Engineers this seasons, and sports a 0.85 GAA and 0.817 save pct.
All-Time Series:Vassar and RPI have been evenly matched throughout the all-time series, as the Brewers are 14-14-1 against the Engineers since 1988. Last season, VC came out ahead earning at 1-0 victory at home on a goal from then-freshman
Emily Krebs (Newport Beach, CA/Corona Del Mar).
Liberty League Shaping Up: With only a few weeks left in the season, the playoff picture in Liberty League has started to take shape. Defending league champion William Smith will retain the No. 1 overall seed, as the Herons are 6-0 on the year with two conference games remaining. RPI (4-2) and Vassar (2-1-2) will fight for the No. 2 seed, as a RPI win will cement the Engineers into the second seed. A Vassar win will disrupt RPI clinching the home playoff game, as the Brewers would then control their own destiny to earn the second spot.
Vassar in the Rankings: The Vassar women's soccer team was ranked No. 10 in the NCAA Division III East Region this week; the first time the Brewers hit the rankings this season.
First Half Domination: The Brewer defense has been tough to crack in the first half of games this season, allowing only one goal in the opening period through 14 games while scoring nine. VC will look to improve that mark in the second half, where teams are outscoring Vassar 10-8.
Next Up: Vassar will return to Gordon Field on Tuesday for its regular season home finale, facing local Liberty League foe Bard College at 3:00 pm.
