Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

ROCHESTER, NY (October 17, 2014) -- The Vassar College women's volleyball team dropped a pair of crucial Liberty League matches Friday evening, falling to Rochester Institute of Technology 3-1 and Skidmore College 3-0.

The Brewers (11-15, 3-7 Liberty League) dropped a 25-23, 22-25, 25-21, 25-23 decision to RIT, before losing in straight sets to Skidmore 25-23, 25-22 and 25-22.

RIT 3, Vassar 1
Vassar responded from being down a set in the second frame to even the match, but the Tigers (15-11, 3-2 Liberty) battled back to take a 2-1 lead. In the fourth game, Vassar and RIT were deadlocked four times late in the set including at 23 after a kill by freshman Alex Sams (Los Angeles, CA/Beverly Hills).

RIT earned the last two points of the match though, clinching the important Liberty League tussle. Senior Taylor Mosley (Rowlett, TX/Parish Episcopal School) chalked up a double-double of 11 kills and 12 digs against the Tigers, adding three aces as well. Fellow senior Marie Pitre (San Dimas, CA/St. Lucy's Priory) booked 10 kills and seven digs, while Clara Cardillo (San Francisco, CA/Bay School of San Francisco) chalked up seven terminations and five total blocks.

Sophomore Gabby Miller (Scottsdale, AZ/Horizon) had a team-best 27 assists to go with six digs and three blocks, and Chloe Hallum (Olympia, WA/Olympia) added a game-high 20 digs. RIT was paced by Sarah Szybist and her match-leading 27 kills.

Skidmore 3, Vassar 0
The second match of the day featured three very close sets, but in each the Brewers could not hold on in falling to the Thoroughbreds in three games. In the opening set, Vassar led 21-19 but four straight points from Skidmore made the score 23-21. VC pulled to within one twice, but SC held on to take an early lead.

The second set saw the Throroughbreds take a 17-15 lead, but four consecutive points from the Brewers made the score 19-17. During the stretch, freshman Paige Lerman (San Rafael, CA/Jewish Comm. Of The Bay) added two kills and a block for the Brewers. With VC leading 21-19, Skidmore rallied to tally six of the game's last seven points to earn a come-from-behind 25-22 win.

In the final set, VC again led late at 20-19 and 21-20, but four straight points for Skidmore pushed the Thoroughbreds ahead for good. Mosley again led the way offensively for the Brewers, as she posted her first 20-kill performance of the season, adding nine digs. Miller and Sams each had five kills as well for VC, while Miller dished out a team-leading 17 assists.

Hallum finished with 14 digs in the loss to SC, and Lerman, Pitre and Cardillo each had three total blocks. Vassar hit .051 (38-31-136) for the night. Brittany Osborn had a team-leading 10 kills for Skidmore.
