Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

SPRINGFIELD, MA (October 11, 2014) – The Vassar College women's volleyball team rebounded from a three-set loss to host Springfield College in the morning, knocking off Smith College in three games in the final day at the Tom Hay Invitational, hosted by Springfield.

The Brewers were knocked off by the Pride in the opening match of the day 25-16, 25-11 and 25-14, but responded with a 25-16, 25-17, 26-16 win over the Pioneers in the afternoon session of contests. Vassar College finished play at the tournament 2-1.

Springfield 3, Vassar 0
The host Pride were not courteous to its guests Saturday morning, as Springfield held Vassar College to -.037 hitting in the opening match of the day. The Brewers were forced to play from behind during all three sets, and couldn't muster the offense to get back into the match.

Senior Taylor Mosley (Rowlett, TX/Parish Episcopal School) chalked up a team-leading nine kills in the match, while junior libero Chloe Hallum (Olympia, WA/Olympia) finished with a match-high 10 digs for the Brewers. Senior Marie Pitre (San Dimas, CA/St. Lucy's Priory) also had five kills and four digs for the Brewers, who struggled to contain the potent Pride offense.

Springfield finished with a .361 hitting clip (31-9-61) on the match, paced by the nine kills from Elise Brogan. Rebecca Higgins and Kelsey McGayhey each had six kills apiece for SC, while Marnae Mawdsley dished out a game-best 27 helpers.

Vassar 3, Smith 0
The second match of the day was more to the liking of VC, as it was able to capture its second win in the last two days with a three-game win over the Smith College. In the opening set, VC opened a commanding 10-2 lead, and was able to cruise to the early match advantage. It was much of the same in the second set, as Vassar College led by as many as 12 points midway through the set.

In the final game of the match, the Brewers tallied a game-high 15 kills to finish off the Pioneers. The victory was Vassar's 10th of the season, which marks the 29th straight season with 10 or more wins. Mosley was outstanding in the final match of the day for Vassar, as she pounded down 17 kills on 31 attempts, posting just four errors for a hitting rate of .419. For her efforts, she was named to the All-Tournament Team.

Sophomore Gabby Miller (Scottsdale, AZ/Horizon) finished with seven kills, 13 assists and three blocks, while freshman setter Sophia Tiajoloff (Kinnelon, NJ/Kinnelon) added a game-best 21 assists to go with six digs.

Sophomore Sierra Tobin (Santa Cruz, CA/Santa Cruz) added a team-leading nine digs, as Vassar finished with an attacking rate of .272. The percentage was Vassar's second-highest of the season, behind just the .377 clip posted against Mount Holyoke September 14.
