Women's Swimming Fares Well Despite 193-101 Loss To NYU On Senior Day

    POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (January 25, 2014) – The Vassar College women's swimming and diving team fell to the strong and deep team of New York University 193-101 on Saturday at Kresge Pool.

    Freshman Julia Cunningham (Yardley, PA/Peddie School) won two races while sophomore Lily Frye (Fairport, NY/Harley School) took a single win. Cunningham won the 200 Yard Butterfly (2:08.06) and the 200 Yard Breaststroke (2:28.64). Frye claimed victory in the 50 Yard Freestyle by .04 (26.24).

    Sophomore Milee Nelson (Champaign, IL/University Laboratory) had a second place finish in the 100 Fly. Nelson, not normally a butterflier, swam a lifetime best 1:02.98. Senior McKenzie Quinn (Upper Montclair, NJ/Immaculate Heart) and sophomore Marie Schmidt (Homer, AK/Homer) both took third in their events. Quinn swam a 1:14.10 in the 100 Breaststroke and Schmidt raced in the 1,000 Yard Free for a 11:10.65.

    The Brewers will next travel to Saratoga Springs, NY for the Skidmore College Sprint Invitational on Saturday, February 1 at 1:00 pm..
