POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (January 24, 2014) – The Vassar College men's basketball team composed a solid second half on its way to a 69-51 Liberty League win from the Athletics and Fitness Center against Clarkson University on Friday night.

Junior forward Alex Snyder (Rutland, VT/Rutland) led three other Brewers in double-digit scoring with his 17 points, kicking off Vassar's Coaches vs. Cancer weekend. Sophomore guard Johnny Mrlik (San Francisco, CA/St. Ignatius College Preparatory), sophomore guard Erikson Wasyl (Durham, CT/Coginchaug) and junior guard Curtis Smith (Mastic, NY/Eastport South Manor) had 16, 15 and 13 points, respectively, following Snyder.

The Brewers (12-3, 4-2) put together a 15-3 run to start the second half after being up 29-25 for their second-largest lead of the night, 44-28. Smith had seven of his points in that six-minute span of clock. Senior forward Evan Carberry (Metuchen, NJ/Metuchen) also scored all five of his game tallies in that run.

A pair of free throws from Smith with the score at 48-37 in favor of Vassar began a 9-0 run and gave the Brewers their largest lead of the night, 57-37. Clarkson's (7-7, 1-4) Dylan Hodownes hit a three-pointer to end the 20-point terror of a lead and Vassar's run.

The Golden Knights only managed 19-of-57 (33.3 percent) from the field tonight and 8-of-25 (32 percent) from beyond the three-point arc. Vassar hit an astounding 14-of-20 (70 percent) from the floor in the second half, totaling 25-of-43 (58.1 percent) on the night. The Brewers were also 14-of-19 (73.7 percent) from the free throw line and 5-of-15 (33.3 percent) from the arc.

Carberry pulled down nine caroms with eight of them on the defensive side of play. He also dished out two helpers. Every Brewer who stepped foot on the floor managed to pull in at least one rebound. Wasyl had a game-high four steals.

The Brewers will next host St. Lawrence University tomorrow at 4:00 pm. Clarkson will next travel to Bard College for a 4:00 pm start as well tomorrow.
