MONTCLAIR, NJ (January 22, 2014) – The Vassar College men's swimming and diving team fell in a close meet to Montclair State University on Wednesday evening 156-122 along with setting new personal lifetime bests including a school record.
Freshman
Anthony Walker (Madison, WI/James Madison Memorial) broke his own school record in the 200 Yard Butterfly with a new time of 1:59.57 after originally breaking it at the Liberty League championships last fall. Walker also took second place in the 200 Yard Individual Medley. His time was 2:05.67 which was barely bumped from the first place spot of 2:05.08 by Joe Berry of the Red Hawks.
Walker also won the 100 Yard Butterfly (53.55) as well as the 200 Yard Medley Relay (1:44.63) with
Chris Cerutti (Mount Kisco, NY/Fox Lane),
Matt Weiss (Florence, MA/Northamton) and
Greg Cristina (Suffield, CT/Suffield).
The Brewers earned major points in the 200 Yard Breaststroke as they took the one, two and four spots in the finishing lineup.
Luc Amodio (Poughkeepsie, NY/Arlington) took first (2:21.23) and was followed by
Patrick Lai (Chatham, NJ/Newark Academy) (2:24.19) and Weiss (2:35.60).
Weiss also won the 100 Yard Breaststroke with a time of 1:05.37. The time was a season best.
John Nguyen (Nashua, NH/Nashua North) competed in two 1 Meter diving events. The first one featured a six-dive list where he scored 130.45 and the second was a 124.5 totaling as a five-dive set.
The Brewers will next host New York University on Saturday, January 25 at 1:00 pm for senior day.
