Trinity College Sinks Men's Swimming And Diving Despite Season Best Performances

    HARTFORD, CT (January 14, 2014) – The Vassar College men's swimming and diving team competed in dual meet action that ended with a loss of 150-77 on the road at Trinity College on Tuesday evening.

    Junior Luc Amodio (Poughkeepsie, NY/Arlington) led the Brewers. Besides his individual efforts, Amodio teamed with a fresh off his Junior Year Abroad Matt Weiss (Florence, MA/Northamton), freshman Anthony Walker (Madison, WI/James Madison Memorial) and sophomore Greg Cristina (Suffield, CT/Suffield) for a second place finish in the 200 Yard Medley Relay (1:40.10).

    Amodio won the 200 Yard IM (2:06.59) and the 100 Yard Backstroke (55.31). His 200 time was a season best. Also winning an individual event was Walker in the 100 Yard Butterfly (53.69).

    "We were a little flat through the first half of the meet but seemed to pick up in the second," said head coach Lisl Prater-Lee. "Trinity just out-swam us." Freshman Walter Gabriel (Houston, TX/Cypress Ranch) swam a season best in the 100 Fly with a time of 1:02.75 despite his seventh place finish.

    Sophomore Isaiah Hale (Dansville, NY/Dansville) out-touched Trinity's Alex Zhang in the 500 Yard Freestyle by 1.43 seconds for a second place finish (5:24.30).

    Senior diver John Nguyen (Nashua, NH/Nashua North) took both second places in the diving events with a score of 151.19 on the 3 Meter and a final of 146.70 on the short board.

    Weiss finished second in the 100 Yard Breaststroke with a 1:04.29 with him still being fresh to the pool after a semester out of the country.

    The Brewers will next travel to Montclair State University on Wednesday, January 22 at 6:00 pm.
