Men's Soccer Picks Up 3-1 Win Against Ursinus In Final Game Of Haverford Tournament

    HAVERFORD, PA (September 8, 2013) – The Vassar College men's soccer team buried three goals in its win over Ursinus College in the final game of the Jimmy Mills Classic at Walton Field hosted by Haverford College. The final score was 3-1.

    Senior Juliano Pereira got Vassar the 1-0 lead in the 30th minute of play. Stefan Johnson took a shot in the 39th minute of play for the Bears but Ryan Butler deflected it in for the tying goal, 1-1.

    Sophomore Zach Nasipak scored the game-winning goal in the 48th minute from an assist by freshman Stephen Jennings. Junior Tom Wiechert rounded out the scoring in the 72nd minute when he drove around defenders for the solo goal.

    Ryan Murphy received the loss for the Bears with only five saves and two goals allowed. Daniel Cartwright came in for the final 20 minutes and gave up one goal while saving one. Senior Ryan Grimme earned his third win (3-1) with six saves in the 90 minutes of action.

    The Brewers outshot Ursinus, 10-14 but the Bears held a 10-2 corner kick advantage over Vassar.

    The Brewers (3-1) will next travel to Purchase, NY to face off with Manhattanville College at 7:30 pm on Wednesday, September 11. Ursinus (1-3) also has a 7:30 pm start on that day against Scranton at home.
