POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (September 6, 2013) – Excitement brewed in the overtime period of Friday's opening game of the annual Vassar College Betty Richey Field Hockey Tournament when the Brewers defeated Manhattanville College, 2-1 off a long driving goal from Dara Davis.

The junior forward was led with a pass from senior midfielder Anna Schroeder. Schroeder blasted by Valiant defenders from 45 yards out and found Davis wide open just inside of the circle. Davis received the pass and after a couple of steps towards Manhattanville goalie Amy Hilton, found the back right corner.

Fellow junior forward, Enya Cunningham was relentless on offense as she had already rifled a shot within the first 10 second of overtime and added another two within the first three minutes. Cunningham finished the game with four shots and two on goal.

Manhattanville jumped out to the early, 1-0 start when Rylee McGuire took a pass from Amanda DeChent and placed the ball in the back corner of the sophomore Brewer Amreen Bhasin's goal in the first two and a half minutes.

Vassar sophomore forward Lauren Wiebe countered with a goal of her own just 12 minutes later, tying the game at 1-1. Schroeder picked up the assist on the goal.

The Brewers outshot the Valiants, 27-16. The Valiant defense held strong with Renee LaFosse and Julia Esposito both earning defensive saves.

Hilton recorded 12 saves for Manhattanville while Bhasin recorded one and senior Maggie Brelis earned seven.

The Brewers (2-0) will host Smith College in the championship game Saturday afternoon at 2:00 pm. Smith defeated Bay Path College, 11-0 in tonight's 7:00 pm game. Manhattanville (1-2) will take on Bay Path at 11:00 am.
