Pereira and Wiechert Score Two Each In 4-0 Win Over West. Conn.

    DANBURY, CT (September 4, 2013) – Senior Juliano Pereira and junior Tom Wiechert netted a combined four goals in the Vassar College men's soccer team's 4-0 win over Western Connecticut State University Wednesday evening.

    Pereira scored in the first half twice, ensuring the Brewers victory. He put in his first goal in the 19th minute of play. Nine minutes later, sophomore Jordan Palmer picked up the assist on the second Pereira goal as the Brewers went on to end the half, 2-0.

    Wiechert got his first goal in the second half in the 68th minute off an assist by sophomore Nick Hess. Wiechert then put in the final goal of the game just 30 seconds later.

    Vassar outshot Western Connecticut, 15-13. Senior goalkeeper Ryan Grimme picked up his first shutout of the season with five saves after facing nine shots. Sophomore Sebastien Lasseur came in for the final 15 minutes of the game, picking up two saves. Sophomore keeper Bobby Strevel made five saves in goal for the Colonials, but suffers the loss

    The Brewers advance to 2-0 on the season and will next face Haverford College on Saturday, September 7 at 3:30 pm. Western Connecticut falls to 1-1 and will next travel to face John Jay on Saturday, September 7 at 2:30 pm.
