Box Score 2 CANTON, NY (September 27, 2013) – St. Lawrence University knocked off the Vassar College women's volleyball in four games Saturday afternoon, but the Brewers responded with a four-set win over Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) in Liberty League play from Burkman Gymnasium.
In the opening match with the Saints and Vassar, SLU (10-5, 2-1 Liberty) earned the win with scores of 25-23, 27-25, 25-19 and 25-21. Vassar hit a solid .220 on the match, but allowed the Saints to swing at a .264 percentage throughout the contest.
Junior
Taylor Mosley (Dallas, TX/Parish Episcopal School) had a stellar day, notching 14 kills on just 28 swings. Freshman
Gabby Miller (Scottsdale, AZ/Horizon) added 13 finishes and five digs, while senior
Jessie Ditmore (Santa Barbara, CA/Laguna Blanca) posted eight kills and two assisted blocks.
Senior
Rose Carman (Santa Cruz, CA/Santa Cruz) added 42 assists against St. Lawrence, and sophomore libero
Chloe Hallum (Olympia, WA/Olympia) chalked up 23 digs and four service aces. Senior
Lydia Bolton (Wellesley, MA/Wellesley) posted three aces as well for the Brewers, who finished with eight as a team against the Saints.
In the second contest of the afternoon, Vassar (10-7, 2-2 Liberty) battled back to earn a split on the day, knocking off RIT with scores of 25-17, 21-25, 25-22 and 25-19. Mosley exploded for her third 20-kill outing of the year, as she finished with exactly 20 successful attacks and seven digs. Junior
Clara Cardillo (San Francisco, CA/Bay School of San Francisco) posted her fifth double-digit kill contest of the year with 10 finishes against RIT.
Carman added 41 assists and three aces for the Brewers, and Hallum dug up 18 Tiger attacks on the day. Junior
Marie Pitre (San Dimas, CA/St. Lucy's Priory) also chalked up five kills for Vassar against RIT. Sarah Szybist had 15 kills to lead the way for the Tigers.
The Brewers are back in action next Friday evening at Bard College, taking Skidmore College and Clarkson University in more Liberty League play. Action with the Thoroughbreds starts at 4 p.m. in Annandale-on-Hudson, NY.
