Women's Soccer Second Half Offense Not Enough To Overcome Skidmore

    SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY (September 28, 2013) – The Vassar College women's soccer team narrowly dropped a 1-0 decision to undefeated Liberty League opponent, Skidmore College Saturday at Wachenheim Field.

    Skidmore took the lead at 22:00 when Arena Manning broke through three Vassar defenders to beat sophomore goalkeeper Emma Nichols (Lexington, MA/Lexington).

    The Brewers almost tied the game up in the second half on three instances. Junior Chloe Wheeler (Thousand Oaks, CA/Westlake) took a shot from the far left wing twice that ended in Skidmore's Gab Lawrence saves. Junior Lily Lanier (Brookline, MA/Brookline) took a header off a freshman Kelsey Hamm (Wilmington, NC/John T. Hoggard) corner kick from inside of the box, but also ended in a Thoroughbred save.

    Freshman Stephanie Tapolsky (Louisville, KY/Dupont Manual) came in for Nichols at the start of the second half, recording three saves after facing five shots.

    Skidmore outshot Vassar, 11-8 and seven of the Brewers' shots occurred in the second half. Skidmore had three corner kicks compared to Vassar's two.

    The Brewers (4-4-1, 0-1-0) will next host William Smith College in Liberty League play on Friday, October 4 at 4:00 pm. The Thoroughbreds (7-0-1, 2-0-0) will next host Middlebury College on Wednesday, October 2 at 7:00 pm in non-league play.
