Mosley Leads Brewer Women’s Volleyball To Sweep Saturday Afternoon

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2                   POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – Junior outside hitter Taylor Mosley (Dallas, TX/Parish Episcopal School) chalked up 39 kills on the afternoon as the Vassar College women's volleyball team earned four-set wins over The Sage Colleges and Kean University Saturday in play from Kenyon Hall in front of a large group of alumni.

                  In the opening match of the afternoon, the Brewers earned the victory in four games with scores of 25-18, 20-25, 25-15 and 25-14. The opening set saw VC go on a 8-1 run midway through the game, powered by three kills from Mosley, to earn a quick match lead.

The second game saw the Gators (4-13) jump out to a 9-4 lead, but Vassar battled back to take a 13-12 lead thanks to a 6-0 run. Sage surged forward back in front thanks to a 5-1 run, and would capture the second set 25-20. The third set saw the Brewers take a 2-1 lead in the match after the squad hit .310 during the set.

Vassar College would capture the win in the third set, as Clara Cardillo (San Francisco, CA/Bay School of San Francisco) powered down four kills to help the Brew clinch the match. Mosley went off for 19 kills, hitting at a .268 percentage, while digging up 10 attacks, serving two aces and blocking three attacks. It was Mosley's sixth double-double of the season.

Cardillo also had double-digit kills, finishing with 10 kills, and senior Jessie Ditmore (Santa Barbara, CA/Laguna Blanca) tallied 10 kills. Freshman Gabby Miller (Scottsdale, AZ/Horizon) chalked up seven kills and 10 digs, and Chloe Hallum (Olympia, WA/Olympia) registered 17 digs.

                  Senior setter Rose Carman (Santa Cruz, CA/Santa Cruz) had a game-best 43 helpers to go with eight digs, freshman Sierra Tobin (Santa Cruz, CA/Santa Cruz) busted out with four service aces, and Sarah Roberts (Port Washington, NY/P.D. Schreiber) blocked four Sage attempts.

                  The second match of the day went the way of the Brewers with scores of 25-23, 25-18, 20-25 and 25-20. The first set saw 11 ties, with the last deadlock coming at 19. At that point, Vassar went on a 4-0 run to take control of set, earning the win. Mosley had five kills during the set, and Ditmore added four finishes as well.

                 VC added to its match lead in game two, pulling away in the early going thanks to the serving from Megan Andersen (Santa Monica, CA/The Archer School), as she posted two aces and held serve for five straight points. Tobin matched Andersen on the next rotation, helping the Brewers take a 2-0 lead.

                  The third set saw the Cougars (10-2) seize a 16-all game with a 6-1 run to pull to within a game at 2-1. The fourth stanza saw the visitors scurry out in front early, but Vassar caught at 14 and would slowly pull away for the match victory. Mosley was even better against Kean, chalking up 20 kills, 14 digs and three aces and a percentage of .385.

                  Ditmore ended the match with 13 kills and Cardillo supplemented the offense with eight kills and four blocks. Carman handed out 46 assists, Miller added seven kills and 17 digs, and Hallum denied 15 Cougar attacks on the back row for VC. Vassar hit at a .203 clip on the match, and had nine aces as well.

                  The Brewers will now re-focus on Liberty League play with a huge conference weekend coming up. VC will head to Clarkson University Friday night at 7:30 p.m., before taking on St. Lawrence University and Rochester Institute of Technology Saturday afternoon in Canton, NY.
