PURCHASE, NY (September 21, 2013) – The Vassar College women's soccer team defeated Manhattanville College in overtime, 2-1 Saturday afternoon off a goal from sophomore Lucy Brainerd (Littleton, CO/Heritage).
Brainerd got her goal at 95:04 from outside of the 18 past a diving effort from Valiant keeper, Dolores Diemicke.
The game had remained scoreless until 77:22 when Manhattaville's Christie DeMarco scored. Senior Sheeva Seyfi (Laguna Hills, CA/Laguna Hills) responded a couple of minutes later at 81:41. Senior Becki Pearce-Probst (Cambridge, MA/Milton Acad.) and junior Kelsey Domb (Round Rock, TX/Round Rock) volleyed the ball to Seyfi who chipped the ball into the left side of the net for the 1-1 tie.
Sophomore goalkeeper Emma Nichols (Lexington, MA/Lexington) recorded three saves in the first half. Freshman Stephanie Tapolsky (Louisville, KY/Dupont Manual) came in for the remaining of the game. Diemicke had nine saves for Manhattanville.
Vassar outshot Manhattanville 24-8. The Brewers had 11 on goal compared to Manhattanville's four.
The Brewers (4-3-1) will next open Liberty League play at Skidmore College on Saturday, September 28 at 2:00 pm. The Valiants (2-6) will next travel to SUNY Old Westbury on September 25 for a 3:00 pm game start
