Efficient Offense Leads Brewer Women Past Bard College In Liberty League Opener

Box Score                   ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, NY (September 18, 2013) – The Vassar College women's volleyball team hit .413 on the evening Wednesday, rolling to a three-set win over Bard College in the Liberty League opener for both teams. Vassar won with scores of 25-10, 25-7 and 25-11.

                  The first set was close in the early going, as Vassar (7-5,1-0 Liberty) led by only one at 9-8. The visiting Brewers would go on a huge run, scoring 16 of the set's last 18 points to roll to the early lead. Freshman Gabby Miller (Scottsdale, AZ/Horizon) had five kills in the period to lead the Brewers.

                  In the second stanza, Vassar rolled after posting 11 kills in just 18 attempts for a hitting percentage of .500. Miller added another five kills in the second stanza, while Chloe Hallum (Olympia, WA/Olympia) registered five aces during the set. In the final period, junior Clara Cardillo (San Francisco, CA/Bay School of San Francisco) and her five kills helped VC seal the victory.

                  Miller had a team-best 13 finishes for the Brewers, earning that total on just 23 attacks. Cardillo added nine kills in 12 attempts with no errors, and senior Jessie Ditmore (Santa Barbara, CA/Laguna Blanca) posted six kills. Hallum finished with six aces and a team-best 11 digs, and senior Lydia Bolton (Wellesley, MA/Wellesley) had three kills and three digs in the final set.

                  Senior setter Rose Carman (Santa Cruz, CA/Santa Cruz) posted her best set percentage of the season, dishing out 31 helpers on just 61 passes (.508). The hitting percentage for the Brewers was tops of the year and 11th best in program history, while the contest also marked the first of the year with no receiving errors for VC.

                  The Raptors (2-9,0-1 Liberty) were led by the four kills from Mai Aurell-Foulser, while Tytravia Riley and Tiffany Leung each had three kills apiece. Lexi Cooper had 10 assists, and Daniella Azulai added 11 digs for Bard.

                  The Brewers return home on Saturday for a tri-match with The Sage Colleges and Kean University, with the first match starting at 11 a.m. in Kenyon Hall.
