DANBURY, CT (September 18, 2013) – Junior midfielder Kelsey Domb's second half goal proved to be not enough in the Vassar College women's soccer team's 2-1 double overtime loss to Western Connecticut State University on Wednesday evening at The WAC.
Domb's goal came at 52:33 off a throw-in assist from senior defender Becki Pearce-Probst.
Western Connecticut's Ariana D'Aurio got her fourth season goal at 77:57, tying the game 1-1 which would later send the two teams into extra periods.
Emily Neward got the game-winning goal for the Colonials at 108:57 off a corner kick assist by Celia DeVoe.
The Brewers were outshot, 20-14 and 14-9 in shots on goal by the Colonials. Junior Chloe Wheeler had six shots with four on target followed by Lucy Brainerd with five shots and two on net. D'Aurio had five of her six shots on goal.
The Colonials had 10 fouls compared to Vassar's seven.
Alison Rettenmeier had eight saves for Western Connecticut. Sophomore goalkeeper Emma Nichols had two saves in the first half before freshman Stephanie Tapolsky took over. Tapolsky led the game with 10 saves as she picked up the loss.
The Brewers (3-3-1) will next travel to Purchase, NY to face the Valiants of Manhattanville College on Saturday, September 21 at 1:00 pm. The Colonials (5-2) will next host Eastern Connecticut State University on Saturday at 1:00 pm as well.
