PURCHASE, NY (September 11, 2013) – After a game where the Vassar College men's soccer team was down for the majority of play, the Brewers came back and defeated Manhattanville College, 3-2 Wednesday evening.
Sophomore Nick Hess was credited with the game-winning goal at 105:22 in double overtime. He scored off a header from a Gavin Jennings pass after a corner kick from Gavin and a fight for possession.
Manhattanville took the 1-0 lead at 15:54 after a Dylan Moser goal and Alem Pelinkovic assist. Jamie Macchia doubled the Valiant score at 49:31 of the second half.
With three minutes remaining of regulation, Hess got Vassar on the board off a double assist from senior Rob Manukyan and sophomore Gavin at 87:02. At 88:50, Juliano Pereira got the game-tying goal from an assist by Gavin Jennings.
The Brewers outshot the Valiants, 22-14 while both teams had eight on goal each. Vassar held a staggering deficit in corners over Manhattanville, 11-2. The Valiants had nine fouls while the Brewers recorded six.
Senior Ryan Grimme picked up his fourth win of the season (4-1) with six saves. Steve Singson recorded his fourth loss (2-4) with five saves.
The Brewers (4-1) round out their six-game away streak that opened their 2013 campaign on Saturday when they travel to Oneonta State at 1:00 pm. The Valiants (2-4) next travel to face Drew University on Sunday, September 15 at 2:00 pm.
