Rugby Weekend: Women Travel To Yale, Men Host Colgate At Farm

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (April 2, 2013) - The Vassar College Rugby teams have just one month left in their 2012-13 season and this weekend sees the Vassar Men hosting Colgate University Men at 3:00 pm at The Vassar Farm. Colgate University won at regionals in 2011, defeating Fairfield University - the team that upset Vassar in the playoffs! This past Fall Vassar finished second in the Tri-State Conference while Colgate went undefeated to win the Empire Upstate Conference so this will be another tough game for the Brewers. Last weekend Vassar faced Division I Columbia University. Said Coach Brown, "These games were scheduled so that in the event Vassar is selected as one of the At-Large bids to Nationals we will be ready for that level of play." The Brewers should find out on Monday if they have qualified for the USA Rugby National Division II Championship.

Meanwhile the Vassar Women will want to double-up on the Ivy league, as they travel to Yale University in New Haven for a 10:30 am game. Last Saturday the Brewers had a good win over Columbia University 30-19. There will be no trip to nationals this year for the women but they are targeting "The Beast of the East Tournament" in Portsmouth, RI later this month as a team goal.
