#12 Men's Tennis Rolls To 6-3 Win Over #14 NYU

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (April 19, 2013) – The Vassar College #12 Northeast Regionally Ranked men's tennis team defeated #14 New York University, 6-3 Friday evening during Senior Day in Walker Field House.

The match was originally slotted to be played outside at Josselyn Courts. Due to some rain showers, the match was moved inside, just in time for the 2:00 pm start. Seniors Andrew Guzick and Nick Jasso, along with freshman Christian Phelps were undefeated on the day in both singles and doubles.

The Brewers advance to 7-12 overall and will next take part in the Liberty League Championships at a to-be-determined site and time on Saturday, April 27-Monday, April 29.

Guzick and Jasso teamed up in doubles for a solid, 8-2 win over Aaron Meltzer and Harveer Bhalla. Guzick went on, defeating Steven Wu, 6-0, 6-1. Jasso picked up his singles win at the No. 3 spot over Meltzer, 6-3, 6-4. Phelps won his first set against CJ Leong, 6-2 and narrowly picked up a 7-5 second set win. He teamed with senior Josh Kessler at the No. 3 spot in doubles for a dominant, 8-1 win over William Smithline and Bowen Xu.

Evan Udine defeated Ting Yee Lai of NYU at the No. 6 singles spot, 6-0, 6-4 after the fate of the match had been decided.
