Men's Tennis Falls To #19 Amherst College, 8-1

AMHERST, MA (March 30, 2013) – The Vassar College men's tennis team fought a solid nationally ranked #19 Amherst College team but fell short in eight of their matches despite the big doubles win from senior Andrew Guzick and freshman Daniel Cooper.

Guzick and Cooper battled to a decisive, 8-6 win over Amherst's No. 1 pair of Joey Fritz and Aaron Revzin for the Brewers only point in the 8-1 loss.

The setback loss brings the Brewers to a record of 5-9 as they will next travel to Swarthmore, PA to face nationally ranked #23 Swarthmore College on Saturday, April 6 at 3:00 pm. Swarthmore took a huge jump in the national rankings, coming from #27 as posted by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association in their March 28 Ranking Update. No. 3 Northeast Regionally ranked Amherst improves to 15-7 and will next host Bates College on Saturday, April 6 at 1:00 pm.

Guzick battled to a close finish at the No. 1 spot in singles. His first set run was upsetted, 7-6 with Fritz pulling ahead in the second set, 6-3.

Senior Dan Freeman's second set proved to be close, netting himself four points in the set against No. 2 Andrew Yaraghi. Yaraghi won, 6-1, 6-4.
