Men's Basketball Ends 2012-13 Season With 93-60 Loss To Union

SCHENECTADY, NY (February 16, 2013) – The Vassar College men's basketball team finished their 2012-13 season with a 93-60 loss to Liberty League No. 2 Union College Saturday evening in the Viniar Athletic Center.

Freshman forward Nick Johnson hit a 3-pointer in the early minutes of play, tying the game 3-3. Union then went on a 17-5 run, putting them ahead 20-8 and never looked back.

The Brewers finish the season with an overall record of 7-18 and 3-13 in the Liberty League. The Dutchmen end their regular season 20-5 overall and 12-4 in League play. Liberty League No. 2 Union will host No. 3 Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in the semifinals of the Liberty League Championships on February 20 at 7:00 pm.

Despite being down 44-23 at halftime, Vassar's offense stepped up, hitting five 3-pointers and making 10-12 free throws in the second half. Freshman guard Erikson Wasyl and sophomore guard Jon Safir both were perfect from the line, hitting 2-2 each.

Keven Donohue led the Dutchmen with 18 points, followed by Keith Callies who added 12. Sophomore forward Alex Snyder hit his tenth double-double of the season with 13 points and rebounds. Snyder was the game leader in rebounds as well. Sophomore guard Andrew Adkins also scored 13 points and Wasyl added 10.

Snyder ended the season with a team high 11.0 points per game and a 10.3 rebounds per game average. He finishes with a total of 243 points and 226 rebounds in the 22 games he played and started in. Smith has the most points on the team this season with 259 (10.4 ppg).
