SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY (November 9, 2010) – The Vassar College women's swimming and diving team took a huge victory of Liberty League opponent Skidmore College 164-130 on Saturday. The Brewers were led by the NCAA provisional B qualification cut and school record-breaking performance by freshman Julia Cunningham.

Cunningham broke an eight-year old school record, previously held by Katie Hickman '05 of 2:10.03 in the 200 Yard Butterfly. She swam a 2:08.11 and was followed by Zoe Fullerton in second place with a 2:26.41. Cunningham then took firsts in the 100 Yard Butterfly (1:00.39) and the 200 Yard Individual Medley (2:14.25).

Sophomore Marie Schmidt got things rolling with an impressive start to the season in the 1,000 Yard Freestyle. She took control of the race from the start and won it with an 11:23.45.

"We've been revved up all week for the first dual meet of the season, especially since it would be Skidmore with whom we match up with very well," head coach Lisl Prater-Lee said. "We needed absolutely everyone's contribution and we got it."

McKenzie Quinn, Juliana Struve and Kayla Schwab swam a one-two-five outcome in the 100 Yard Breaststroke. Quinn swam a 1:13.98, Struve a 1:16.67 and Schwab a 1:19.12.

Divers Alison Sagliocca and Maya Pruitt dove personal bests on both the 1-Meter and 3-Meter boards. New-to-the-board Karlin Gatton placed third on both boards as well in her first competitive dual meet.

The Brewers (1-0) will next head to Troy, NY for a dual meet with Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on Saturday, November 16 at 1:00 pm.
