Results

SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY (November 9, 2010) – The Vassar College men's swimming and diving team pulled out a huge win over Liberty League opponent Skidmore College on Saturday in the final minutes of the meet with a score of 148-144.

The 400 Yard Freestyle Relay team of sophomores Greg Cristina and Isaiah Hale, junior Luc Amodio and freshman Vincent Palladino swam the race that would claim the victory for the Brewers when they touched finish ahead of the Skidmore A team by 0.88 seconds. The B team of freshmen Ian Quinn, Dan Thompson and Walter Gabriel and senior Evan Einstein took third with a time of 1:54.07.

The Brewers finished the day with eight individual victories. "That in and of itself, would not have been enough to win the meet," said head coach Lisl Prater-Lee. "The fact that we had guys taking second, third and fourth places made the big difference today."

Amodio took a first place victory in the 100 Yard Backstroke and was followed by Cristina in third place. The pair swam a 55.6 and a 1:00.07 respectively. The duo then tagged with freshman Ian Quinn for a one-two-three finish in the 100 Yard Freestyle with times of 50.52, 51.36, and 54.34.

Freshman Anthony Walker soloed three victories on the day. His biggest highlighted wins came in the 100 Yard Butterfly (54.09) and the 200 Yard Individual Medley (2:06.56). His wins would not have been as significant had it not been for Quinn in the 100 Fly with his second place finish (1:00.41), Chris Cerrutti's third place finish in the 200 IM (2:13.37) and Patrick Lai's 200 IM fourth place finish (2:16.88).

Lai also won both the 100 Yard Breaststroke with a time of 1:06.50 and the 200 Yard Breaststroke in 2:26.54.

John Nguyen took two key third place finishes on both the 1-Meter and 3-Meter diving boards.

The Brewers (1-0) will next head to Troy, NY for a dual meet with Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on Saturday, November 16 at 1:00 pm.
