POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (November 2, 2013) – The Vassar College women's volleyball team celebrated Senior Day Saturday afternoon, but couldn't pick up a win in dropping two non-conference tilts in a home tri-match from Kenyon Hall Saturday.
Vassar fell in four games to University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh with scores of 16-25, 25-16, 25-17 and 25-16, before dropping the nightcap in three games to the University of Massachusetts at Boston, 29-27, 25-18, 25-22.
In the opening match of the day, the Brewers (18-17) came out on fire, playing great defense in holding Oshkosh to -.138 hitting in earning a 25-16 win in the opening set. UWO rallied to tie the match at one set apiece, and pulled away in the middle part of game three to take a 2-1 lead. In the final stanza, the Brewers could not stop the Titans (22-10), who connected on 15 kills to earn the match win.
Freshman
Gabby Miller (Scottsdale, AZ/Horizon) had nine kills and six digs on the afternoon, while
Taylor Mosley (Dallas, TX/Parish Episcopal School) totaled nine kills and seven digs. Junior
Marie Pitre (San Dimas, CA/St. Lucy's Priory) chalked up seven kills on 11 swings, while senior
Jessie Ditmore (Santa Barbara, CA/Laguna Blanca) had seven kills and three assisted blocks.
Senior setter
Rose Carman (Santa Cruz, CA/Santa Cruz) dished out 28 assists and had seven digs, while
Chloe Hallum (Olympia, WA/Olympia) and
Sierra Tobin (Santa Cruz, CA/Santa Cruz) each had 18 and 12 digs, respectively. Katelyn Malcheski led the way for the Titans, as she totaled a game-high 12 kills for the visitors.
Following the senior day festivities, the Brewers battled but just couldn't pick up a game in falling in three to UMass-Boston. Mosley had nine kills and seven digs to pace the Brewers, while Miller added eight kills and five digs. Hallum had a team-best 14 digs, Ditmore had five assisted blocks, and Pitre added four total rejections and six kills.
Vassar College is off for the week before heading to Clarkson University for the Liberty League Tournament, battling the top-seeded Golden Knights at 6 p.m. Friday evening in Potsdam, NY.
