POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (November 2, 2013) – The Vassar College women's soccer team won in overtime against Union College, 2-1 and claims its first berth into the Liberty League championships since 2010 behind a goal from freshman Kelsey Hamm (Wilmington, NC/John T. Hoggard) and the game-winner from junior Chloe Wheeler (Thousand Oaks, CA/Westlake) Saturday afternoon at Gordon Field.

Wheeler tied her season high in game-winning goals with today's goal. Sophomore Kamaria Coley (Washington, DC/Academy of the Holy Cross) sent a threaded pass through Dutchmen defenders to Wheeler who, after dribbling around more defenders, found the back of the net with 1:54 remaining in the overtime period.

Hamm's goal was the first to light up the Gordon Field scoreboard at 56:15 when she blasted a 25 yard shot over the top left corner of the 18-yard line that found its way to the back right of the Allison Brustowicz defended goal.

Union tied the game up at 79:09 when Whitney Bickford headed the ball off a Melissa Scinto corner kick that went under the crossbar into the top of the net.

The Brewer offense made its presence apparent today as they outshot Union, 31-8 and 14-4 on goal. Wheeler had 10 shots with four on goal while all five of Hamm's shots were on target.

Brustowicz recorded 12 saves while freshman Stephanie Tapolsky (Louisville, KY/Dupont Manual) picked up her fifth win of the season with three saves. Her best save coming in the second half when Mollie Gilchrist rocked a 20-yard shot that forced Tapolsky to side step and dive down for the catch.

In the 2010 Liberty League Championships, the Brewers defeated then member, Hamilton College 3-2 in overtime before falling in penalty kicks in the championship game to William Smith, 4-3.

The Brewers finish their regular season with a record of 9-7-2 and 4-3-1 in the Liberty League and will next take on William Smith College on November 6. The Dutchmen finish their season with a 9-7 record and 4-3 in the Liberty League.
