POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (November 2, 2013) – Senior Rob Manukyan (Yerevan, Armenia/United Nations International School) got the game-winning goal in the Vassar College men's soccer team's 3-0 win over Liberty League Bard College Saturday afternoon at Gordon Field.

Manukyan now has a game-winning goal in each of his four seasons as a Brewer seeing as Saturday's game was senior day for Vassar. Fellow seniors Ryan Grimme (Gahanna, OH/Gahanna Lincoln), Adrien Demelier (Paris, France/Amity Regional), Juliano Pereira (Albany, CA/Albany) and Evan Seltzer (Philadelphia, PA/The Shipley School) were all honored in pregame ceremonies.

Stephen Jennings
Manukyan's goal came at 8:37 in the first half when sophomore Nick Hess (Troy, NY/Averill Park) sent a long cross diagonally to Manukyan who left-footed it across the face of the goal to the right side of the net for the 1-0 lead.

Pereira got some senior day spotlight at 34:52 when he sent a cross pass from the right of the box to freshman Stephen Jennings (Poughkeepsie, NY/Arlington). Jennings tipped the ball into the middle of the goal.

Junior Tom Wiechert (San Clemente, CA/San Clemente) got his 11th goal of the year at 67:43 when he made a dash from 20 yards out left of the box and beamed the shot to the bottom right corner.

Daniel Gagne had the game high in saves with eight for Bard. Austin Higgins and Christian Letourneau led the Raptors with three shots and two on goal each. Wiechert had four shots on goal out of his seven while Pereira had the same on target of his five shots. Grimme recorded five saves for the 74 minutes he played before sophomore Sebastien Lasseur (Cornwall, CT/Housatonic Vly Regional) came in for another two saves.

Vassar totaled 32 shots with 12 on goal. Seven shots came from the Brewers' bench. All but two of the Brewer starters had a shot.

The win gives the Brewers a 3-1-4 record in the Liberty League as they tie in points with Union College who has a record of 4-3-1. Vassar holds the tiebreaker over the Dutchmen and claims their spot in the Liberty League playoffs. They will travel to St. Lawrence University on November 6. Time is scheduled as TBA. The Raptors finish their season with a record of 2-17 and 0-8 in the Liberty League.
