Men's Swimming And Diving Continues Improvement Despite 155-112 Loss To RPI

    TROY, NY (November 16, 2013) – The Vassar College men's swimming and diving team fell to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, 155-112 Saturday afternoon despite improvements in the pool and on the board.

    "We're building races and dive lists and improving week-to-week," said head coach Lisl Prater-Lee. "Vassar was ready for today and battled through to some very close finishes."

    Diver John Nguyen (Nashua, NH/Nashua North) improved his personal best on the 1-Meter board with a score of 127.00 in six dives. He also took first in the event.

    Freshmen Ian Quinn (Montclair, NJ/Seton Hall Preparatory School), Patrick Lai (Chatham, NJ/Newark Academy) and Dan Thompson (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) all had personal bests on the day. Quinn took second in the 100 Yard Butterfly with a time of 59.66. Lai finished third in the 100 Yard Breaststroke with a 1:05.30. Thompson swam a 1:58.54 in the 200 Yard Freestyle for a fourth place finish.

    Freshman Anthony Walker (Madison, WI/James Madison Memorial) swam closer to the Vassar school records in the 200 Yard Butterfly with his 2:00.42 and the 100 Fly with a 53.53.

    The 200 Yard Medley Relay team of Luc Amodio (Poughkeepsie, NY/Arlington), Lai, Walker and Greg Cristina (Suffield, CT/Suffield) were out-touched to the wall by .41 and had to settle for a second place finish (1:41.85).

    The Brewers will next host SUNY New Paltz on Saturday, November 23 at 1:00 pm in Kresge Pool. RPI will next travel to Oneonta, NY to face Hartwick College at 1:00 pm tomorrow.
