Vassar Women Earn 3-0 Victory Over Bard College Wednesday

Box Score                   POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (October 8, 2013) – The Vassar College women's volleyball team added another Liberty League victory to its tally Wednesday, knocking off Bard College in three sets in action from Kenyon Hall.

                  The match saw the Brewers (13-9/5-4 Liberty League) earn the win with scores of 25-8, 25-4 and 25-13. The first game saw the Brewer defense hold visiting Bard (2-20/0-9 LL) to a negative hitting percentage, pulling away early for the 1-0 advantage. VC swung at a .643 hitting percentage the second game, the highest single-set hitting average of the season. The final set again saw the Brewers finish with 10 kills and just one error in earning the match triumph.

                  Junior Clara Cardillo (San Francisco, CA/Bay School of San Francisco) led the way with a game-high eight kills, finishing with only one error on 13 attempts (.538). Senior Jessie Ditmore (Santa Barbara, CA/Laguna Blanca) was also efficient with seven kills on nine attempts, and junior Marie Pitre (San Dimas, CA/St. Lucys Priory) topped all hitters with a .857 average, landing kills on six of her seven attacks.

                  Sophomore libero Chloe Hallum (Olympia, WA/Olympia) continued to churn out digs, as she finished with a game-best of 12, acing five times as well. Senior Rose Carman (Santa Cruz, CA/Santa Cruz) had 24 assists, five digs and three aces, while Megan Andersen (Santa Monica, CA/The Archer School) added five aces and five digs. The Brewers finished with 22 aces in the match, which was a season-best and tied for the fourth-most in program history.

                  Bard was led by Tytravia Rilery, who had two kills and five service aces along with a block, while teammate Mai Aurell-Foulser posted two kills and five digs.

                  The Brewers will now head to the Seven Sisters Championships this weekend in South Hadley, MA, looking to defend their title from last year. Vassar will take on Wellesley College and Mount Holyoke College Saturday, before finishing play Sunday with contests with Smith College and Bryn Mawr College.
