SCHENECTADY, NY (October 30, 2013) – The Vassar College men's soccer team battled a tough and physical Union College team in Liberty League action on Wednesday evening that resulted in a 2-2 tie at College Park Field.
Junior Zach Nasipak (Chandler, AZ/Hamilton) scored the game-tying goal at 70:47 off an assist from junior Justin Mitchell (Layton, UT/Northridge).
Union scored back-to-back goals in the second half after sophomore Gavin Jennings (Poughkeepsie, NY/Arlington) scored in the first half at 41:01. The Dutchmen's first goal was at 50:33 when Kevin Janson was awarded a penalty kick. Nick Vozzella scored a goal at 62:56 off an assist from Carl Faber.
Senior Ryan Grimme (Gahanna, OH/Gahanna Lincoln) recorded three saves after facing 14 shots. Union's Ryan Carter recorded four from Vassar's nine shots.
Both teams had seven corners. Union had four yellow cards compared to Vassar's two. The Dutchmen who were charged with the yellow cards were James Skelton, Sam Hunter, Nicholas Hall-Risko and William Poetzsch while Vassar's sophomore Nick Hess (Troy, NY/Averill Park) and senior Evan Seltzer (Philadelphia, PA/The Shipley School) were also charged.
The Brewers (7-4-5, 2-1-4 Liberty League) will next host Liberty League opponent and local neighbor Bard College on Saturday, November 2 at 12:00 pm. The Dutchmen (11-3-2, 3-3-1 Liberty League) will next host Skidmore College on November 2 at 2:00 pm.
