NEW LONDON, CT (October 26, 2013) -- The Vassar College women's volleyball team trekked to Coast Guard Academy for a non-conference tri-match Saturday afternoon, knocking off the Connecticut College in three matches before falling in five games to Coast Guard Academy. VC earned a win over CC 25-22, 26-24, and 25-15, while dropping the the Coast Guard contest 17-25, 29-27, 25-11, 15-25 and 16-14.
In the first match of the day, Vassar breezed by their hosts thanks to consistent and balanced hitting. Freshman
Gabby Miller led the Brewers with 12 kills and five digs, while
Taylor Mosley chalked up 10 kills and seven digs.
Clara Cardillo continued her efficient hitting with 10 kills on 16 swings, adding two blocks. Senior
Jessie Ditmore had six kills and five digs, and sophomore
Chloe Hallum had a big game defensively with 29 digs. Senior setter
Rose Carman added 35 assists and seven digs in the game.
In the match with Coast Guard Academy, Vassar hit over .300 in each of the set wins, but struggled in the other three sets in falling in five. Mosley had a team-best 15 kills to go with 10 digs, while Miller had 11 kills and 11 digs. Cardillo added another double-digit outing with 13 kills and no errors, while
Marie Pitre chalked up 10 kills as well.
Ditmore had nine kills, Hallum added 22 digs and Carman finished the contest with 49 helpers, six digs and three service aces. Kelsey Deporto had a game-high 20 kills for CGA (21-6), and Maggie Hine added 49 assists and 17 digs.
The Brewers (18-14) will host New Paltz Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. in Kenyon Hall.
