Late First Half Goal Lifts St. Lawrence Over Women's Soccer, 1-0 Friday

    CANTON, NY (October 18, 2013) – The Saints of St. Lawrence University got a last minute, first half goal to defeat the Vassar College women's soccer team on Friday evening in Liberty League action.

    Julia Friesen scored when she headed a corner kick by Holly Wark into the freshman Stephanie Tapolsky (Louisville, KY/Dupont Manual) net at 44:02.

    Junior Chloe Wheeler (Thousand Oaks, CA/Westlake) led the Brewer offensive with nine shots and four on goal. Junior Kelsey Domb (Round Rock, TX/Round Rock) followed with two shots and both were on target. Friesen had three shots on goal out of her five for the day.

    Tapolsky had five saves on the day and freshman Kelsey Hamm (Wilmington, NC/John T. Hoggard) had a defensive save when Friesen took a shot at 41:15. Kesley West had eight saves for the Saints.

    The Brewers outshot the Saints, 15-12 with eight on goal compared to the hosts' seven on goal. St. Lawrence recorded seven fouls compared to Vassar's six. They also held the advantage in corner kicks, 5-2.

    The Brewers (5-6-2, 0-3-1 Liberty League) will next travel to Clarkson University in Potsdam, NY tomorrow for a 2:00 pm game. The Saints (7-4-2, 1-4-0 Liberty League) will next host the Raptors of Bard College tomorrow at 2:00 pm.
