SOUTH HADLEY, MA (October 12, 2013) – The Vassar College women's volleyball team dropped two, 3-0 matches during the opening day of the Annual Seven Sisters Volleyball Tournament held at Mount Holyoke College Saturday.
The Brewers fell 25-11, 25-9, 25-13 to Smith College and 25-18, 25-13, 25-18 to Wellesley College.
Senior Jessie Ditmore (Santa Barbara, CA/Laguna Blanca) and junior Taylor Mosley (Dallas, TX/Parish Episcopal School) led the Brewers in kills in today's matches. Both had 12 on the day. Ditmore recorded seven against Wellesley and five against Smith. Mosley had eight against Wellesley and four against Smith.
Ditmore had 18 attempts in both matches today. Mosley had 24 against Smith and 23 against Wellesley. Mosley also had a team-high eight digs during the match with Wellesley. Wellesley's Sydney Carfagno had the match-high, 11 digs.
On the day, freshman Sierra Tobin (Santa Cruz, CA/Santa Cruz) had the team-high in digs with 13 against Smith. Smith's defense saw three players combine for 56 digs. Julie Voorhes had 27 with Mei-Li Smith and Sonia Brown both earning 14.
Junior Clara Cardillo (San Francisco, CA/Bay School of San Francisco) recorded 12 assists against Smith while freshman Gabby Miller (Scottsdale, AZ/Horizon) recorded a match-high 15 assists against Wellesley. Miller was also 3-for-10 in kills and recorded four digs and one solo block in the match. She was 3-for-9 with three digs and two block assists against Smith.
The Brewers (13-11, 5-4 Liberty League) will next play Mount Holyoke College and Bryn Mawr College tomorrow, rounding out the Seven Sisters Championships.
