Wheeler Nets Two In Women's Soccer 2-0 Win At Rutgers-Newark

    NEWARK, NJ (October 12, 2013) – Junior Chloe Wheeler netted two goals to lead the Vassar College women's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over host Rutgers-Newark on Saturday evening.

    Wheeler got her third game-winning goal of the year at 36:15 of the first half. It was her seventh goal of the season. She scored when she picked up a loose ball after a collision with the Scarlett Raiders' goalkeeper, Diana Aviles and placed it in the empty goal.

    Wheeler's second goal of the game and eighth of the season came just 2:26 into the second half. Sophomore Kamaria Coley sent a long pass to the open Wheeler who beat out Aviles after taking the pass in from the 18. Wheeler's shot found it's spot in the back right side of the net.

    Freshman Phoebe Reuben saw her first start of the year as she played all 90 minutes with three saves. Rutgers-Newark got seven shots off during regulation compared to Vassar's 10 shots and nine on goal. Aviles had seven saves.

    Vassar had the only corner kick of the game in the first half. The Brewers also recorded 14 fouls compared to the Raiders' 11.

    The Brewers (5-5-2, 0-2-1 Liberty League) will next travel to Canton, NY to face St. Lawrence University in Liberty League action on Friday, October 18 at 4:00 pm. The Scarlet Raiders (3-9-1, 0-4-0 NJAC) will next travel to face New Jersey City in NJAC action on Wednesday, October 16 at 3:00 pm.
