POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (January 10, 2013) – The Vassar College women's basketball team will head to the North Country this Friday and Saturday to face St. Lawrence and Clarkson in Liberty League action. Friday's game against St. Lawrence starts at 6:00 p.m., with Saturday's tip-off against Clarkson at 2:00 p.m.

Vassar Women's Notes (8-1, 1-0): On Tuesday night, the Brewers found that defense of their consecutive Liberty League Championships won't come easily. Using a decisive second half, keyed by a career best 26 points from sophomore
Colleen O'Connell, Vassar did finally run away from a determined Bard College team to register a 79-53 victory. It wasn't until the 12:55 mark of the second half that Vassar pulled away. The first half was tied six times and had four lead changes. Bard held a 20-19 lead following a jumper in the paint by freshman guard Blanka Bell with 5:28 before halftime. The Brewers regained the lead for good with back-to-back jumpers by forwards
Hannah Senftleber and
Natalie Allen.
Super Cydni: Junior guard
Cydni Matsuoka leads the Liberty League in scoring (20.4 ppg), field goal percentage (.566), assists (5.5 apg) and 3-point percentage (.490) and 3-pointers made per game (3.0). In the January 3 NCAA Statistics, Matsuoka ranks 20th in the nation in scoring, 12th in assists, 19th in field goal percentage, 6th in 3-point shooting percentage and 15th in 3-pointers made per game.
Both junior
Hannah Senftleber and O'Connell rank 10th in the leauge in rebounding (6.6 rpg).

St. Lawrence University Notes (7-3, 1-0): The St. Lawrence University women's basketball team used a 29-4 run midway through the second half en route to an impressive 67-52 victory over Skidmore College in the Saints' 2013 Liberty League opener on Tuesday night at Burkman Gymnasium. Sophomore Kara McDuffee scored a game-high 19 points and eight rebounds, while junior Kelly Legg chipped in 16 points and eight rebounds.
McDuffee leads the Saints in scoring at 15.7 ppg. Legg follows and 13.0 ppg and a team-best 6.9 rpg.
Next Up: After tonight's game, the Saints will host Bard at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
Coaches: Vassar is coached by
Candice Brown, who is in her 4th season. Brown has led the Brewers to back-to-back Liberty League Championships and appearances in the NCAA Division III Championships. She was the 2010-11 Liberty League Coach of the Year.
St. Lawrence is coached by Don Rogier in his fourth season.
