Women's Swimming and Diving Downed By NYU In Final Away Dual Meet

NEW YORK, NY (January 26, 2013) – The Vassar College women's wimming team lost to New York University, 147-76, Saturday afternoon in the final away dual meet of the 2012-13 season.

Senior co-captain Shannon Sara was the only victor in her idividual event today as she swam a season best 2:31.49 in the 200 Yard Breaststroke. The 200 Yard Free Relay of junior McKenzie Quinn, senior Sydnie Alquist, freshman Lilliana Frye and sophomore Liz Balter won with a time of 1:47.41.

The Brewers will next travel to Skidmore College for the Women's Sprint Invitational on Saturday, February 2 for a 1:00 pm start. NYU will next send members to the UAA Championships hosted by the University of Chicago on February 14-16.

Sophomore divers Jane Cardona (239.71), Kelly Wilkinson (204.37) and freshman Allison Sagliocca (157.43) finished second, third and fourth in the 3-meter. Cardona's score on the 1-meter board was a season best for six dives and she also took second on the 1-meter board with a score of 214.42.

Other Brewer second place finishers included freshman Marie Schmidt who swam a lifetime best in the 1,000 Yard Free (11:19.60), senior co-captain Sydnie Alquist in the 200 Yard Free (2:06.06), sophomore Liz Balter who swam a lifetime best in the 200 Yard Backstroke (2:23.73) and sophomore Juliana Struve in the 200 Yard Breast (2:39.30).

"Our team came in upbeat and with good attitudes with this being the last coed meet of the season," head coach Lisl Prater-Lee said. "We're happy with what they did and it puts the pieces in place for what happens four weeks from now."
