Swimming and Diving To Travel to NYU Saturday

Jeffrey From and Alison Sagliocca will add to a strong diving core.

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (January 25, 2013) – The Vassar College men's and women's swimming and diving team will travel to New York City to face New York University in the final away dual meet of the 2012-13 season.

Vassar Men Notes: The Vassar College men's swimming a diving team fell to Montclair State University, 126-92, Wednesday evening in the Brewer's final home dual meet at Kresge Pool of the 2012-13 season.

The Brewers' biggest highlights were senior diver Simon Whitelaw sweeping the diving events along with sophomore diver Rory Moon. Senior Mathue Duhaney had a season-best performance in the 50 Yard Freestyle with a first place time of 22.80 and a 22.46 split in the 200 Yard Free Relay.

Vassar Men Next Meet: The Brewers will next host the Sprint Invitational on Saturday, February 9 at 1:00 pm.

Vassar Women Notes: The Brewers finished third out of the five teams competing at the annual Seven Sisters Championships held at Wellesley College on January 19-20. Sophomore diver Jane Cardona is now the proud owner of both the 3-meter and 1-meter school records. Cardona took control of the 1-meter record at the championship meet from teammate sohomore Kelly Wilkinson after scoring a 384.45.

Senior Shannon Sara led the Brewers during the Seven Sisters Championships in the pool with second place finishes in the 200 Yard Breaststroke with a season-best 2:33.27, the 200 Yard Individual Medley with a season-best 2:14.97 and the 400 Yard Individual Medley with a 4:48.12. She also took third in the 100 Yard Breaststroke with a time of 1:11.00. Sara teamed up for a third place finish in the 400 Yard Medley Relay (4:18.38), a third place finish in the 800 Yard Freestyle Relay (8:21.66) and a fourth place finish in the 400 Yard Free Relay (3:53.78). Her performances earned her the recognition of Liberty League Weekly Honor Roll.

Vassar Women Next Meet: The Brewers will next travel to Saratoga Springs, NY for the Skidmore College Women's Sprint Invitational at 1:00 pm on Saturday, February 2.

NYU Men Notes: After returning to New York City after a week of training in Ft. Lauderdale, FL, the New York University men's swimming & diving team jumped back into pool against Springfield College in Springfield, MA, on Saturday, January 12. While the Violets were outdone by their hosts 164-123.

Jerry Crowley was a triple-winner for the VIolets, posting victories in the 100-yard butterfly (52.65), the 100-yard freestyle (48.14) and the 50-yard freestyle (21.81).

NYU Men Next Meet: The Violets will next look forward to the UAA Championships hosted by the University of Chicago on February 14-16.

NYU Women Notes: The Violets dropped a 157-126 decision to Springfield College in Springfield, MA on Saturday, January 12 after returning from a winter break training trip in Ft. Lauderdale, FL.

The Violets had a highlight in the team of Savanna Keator, Emily Doerner, Krista Traub, and Nina Rusiewski as they won the 200-yard medley relay race with a time of 1:51.55 to start the meet. Another relay team consisting of Keator, Rusiewski, Traub, and Claire Stephens emerged victorious in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:44.63).

NYU Women Next Meet: The Violets will next look forward to the UAA Championships hosted by the University of Chicago on February 14-16.

Vassar Head Coach: Lisl Prater-Lee is in her 18th season.

NYU Head Coach: Trevor Miele is in his first season.
