POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (January 13, 2013) – The Vassar College men's swimming and diving team were upended by a strong Trinity College team 117-95 Sunday afternoon in Kresge Pool.

Vassar came off a trip to Florida for training and yesterday's Kumpf Invitational at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

The Brewers will next host Montclair State University on Wednesday, January 23 at 6:00 pm. Trinity will next host Brandeis University on Saturday, January 19 at 1:00 pm.

Senior Mathúe Duhaney won the 50 Yard Freestyle with a time of 23.08. Freshman Greg Cristina followed in the event with a 23.33, second place finish.

Senior Simon Whitelaw swept the diving events with a score of 211.79 on the 1-meter and a score of 220.27 on the 3-meter. Sophomore Rory Moon took second and sophomore Jeffrey From took third in each diving event.

Cristina raced to a gutsy second place finish in the 100 Yard Freestyle with a time of 51.47. Freshman Isaiah Hale finished third in the 200 Yard Freestyle with a tough-as-nails performance as he finished with a time of 1:54.31. His finish was .01 seconds behind Trinity's Carl Gibney.

“Coming off the Florida training trip and the meet yesterday, we may not have had the outcome we would want for the meet overall,” assistant coach Dan Decker said. “We can feel good about many of the technical elements we are looking for from the swimmers being present. They are beginning to really put some things in place that will help them take off at the end of this season and put up some very fast times.”
